Push button starter

Got my gauges wrong. Long nights with my head upside-down trying to fix this.

I meant the I have 4 gauge. Swapping with 2.

Not able to wrap my head around why one would want install one of these only to mount the push button on the floor.
Having the starter activated by hand would allow the feet to be free to push the clutch, gas or brake pedal and not necessarily have to set the hand brake when starting it on a hill or such.
What am I missing?

Update. I found the short in the system. The original starter switch housing was shorting to the terminal post. I installed a makeshift grommet while I order parts.

I upgraded the battery cables to 2 gauge. Removed a cut off switch from the positive terminal. And grounded to the frame, instead of the seat frame where the cutoff was installed.

Using the solenoid button, the engine turns over like a champ! It took me a few tries to get the push button switch wired correctly. And I drained the battery. I have it on trickle tonight. And hope to try to start the engine tomorrow morning! Fingers crossed.

A strong magnet, available online, can be used to mount switches, or any other thing, under the dash or to the gas tank without drilling any holes. Just glue it to the switch and use a little bit of cloth between the magnet and the mounting surface to protect the paint.

Search for Rare Earth or Neodymium magnets. Harbor Fright calls them rare earth magnets. Keep them away from little kids. They can pinch like a vise grip and can be fatal if two or more are swallowed.

Battery charged, the engine starts on the first revolution. Now that I know my electrical is good. I hooked the cut off switch back up. Now I just need to mount the Push button. Thanks for the magnet idea. I'm heading to harbor freight later today. I'll take a look.

Know what woofa? That's not a bad idea. And that made me remember that I might have a key switch that would work! Going to look for it now.

This should work. As long as it fits. Looks pretty long.

I am adding a push button solenoid for the starter. One thing I have not seen in the forum, is where people mount the push button. I would like to mount it up under the dash panel somehow. But, I would like to see what others have done first.

I have had a fair amount of experience with Ford tractors of 6V vintage. A friend in HS had a 1950 Ford pickup with the starter button in the dash to the left of the steering wheel, and I always thought that was cool, including the solenoid on the firewall. Since my ankle doesn't have enough convoluted flexibility to easily use the foot starter, I have replicated the pickup set-up. Still waiting for size 0 cables, but anticipate success.

With a key start, how are you going to operate the choke rod when needed? Turn the key with your left hand and operate the choke with your right or cross your arms?:)

I mounted a button under the left end of the dash rail on my 31 Vickey. Nomore torn up starter switches. Push botton and a solonoid on the starter did the trick.
