Pump Shaft

I bought a new Snider head, the water pump shaft appears to be to long. Do I grind down the shaft or is there an adjustment I am missing? I believe the shaft is stainless steel.

If you use the rear of the shaft to set the end play, make sure it's smooth where it rubs against the head. I like to use the collar that clamps to the front of the shaft to control the end play. It's not original, but does a good job, and if you need to use the pump for another engine or head you don't need to check the end play or grind for the correct fit.
