Pulling the rear wheels

So I have been trying to get both these rear wheels off with the pictured hub tool with minimal results.

I understand it has probably been a real long time since these things have been apart, but this is not fun. Using a block of wood and taping on the rims outboard is moving the drum/wheel outboard but I'm getting tired:eek:

Have been looking @ old posts on rear wheel removal but those options do not seem to help either, any input would be great.

Tapping isn't going to do diddly squat. If you have not, leave the axle nut on but turn over and run out to end of axle so it's flush with end. Reinstall the wheel puller. Jack up the other side, yes the other side. Now snug every thing up good and tight and get a 5-10lb sledge hammer and give that sucker a couple or three good hits. No whossie swings, smack it good and square on the the head of the puller cap screw. Once it pops free, jack that side up, remove the puller and nut. Of course make sure that wheel turns and brakes are not rusted to drum. Once it pops free if it needs a little more help use the puller.

Thanks for the input Red, will give that a try next weekend and hope it's somewhat cooler.

This recent heat wave has taken all my energy and I am probably hitting that darn thing like a "whoosie", RDRR:D

LOL it's been in the 90's for about 10 days now in the other Portland! :) I generally leave the wheel I am taking off on the ground, the force of the hammer knocks the axle out of the hub.

That's weird, if the wheel & drum is moving it should be loose enough to remove unless the brakes are dragging.
If the car is mobile, loosen the nuts one flat & take it around a corner at speed, if you hear a slight clunk or pop it should be loose, drive very carefully back and remove it.
Or rock the wheel side to side, or drop that side to the ground & rock the whole car.
