pull fender or entire clip?

Hello,

Which is easier and how do I unbolt the entire front clip if I go that route? I have the bolts on the right front fender soaking (this needs to come off).

thanks,

Mike

Why do you need to take it off? Is it just a right front fender issue or something more? I assume your talking about the '57.

Yep (the 57) just the right front fender needs to come off-at this point. I have to get behind it to do some welding on the A pillar/kick panel/inner rocker. It will make welding much easier.

Yeah, you can pull the entire front clip......but why? Much simpler to just remove the RF fender.

Front clip. I think some of the hardest bolts are between the hinges at the door inside. Those usually spin if the nut cage breaks. If they don't go back in correctly the fender edge will hit the door when opening.
Also disconnect everything on the inner fender panels. There some bolts at the lower section of the inter fenders.

Well, the fender is coming off and I am busy soaking and pulling bolts slowly. HOWEVER, I ran into an issue with two bolts-#$%@#$%#%%#@$% engineers! The bottom bolt that secures the fender to the inner fender just spins. And the top bolt that sits right next to the hood bumper does the same thing-albeit because some metal has been cut out for some reason. So got some angled needle nose plyers last night and will start to see if I can get them out with the new language that I am about to create:)

Question: What is the rubber/felt type stuff that goes in between the inner and outer fenders? Do the parts houses carry it or can I just buy generic stuff?

Thanks,

Mike

on the top one, I think if you take the vent cover off you might be able to wiggle a wrench back there.

I think that rubber just an antisqueak, similar to the rubber around the model A hood.

If you are taking the fenders off, note how the rear of the fender sits next to the front door edge. If your door opens and close nice currently without hitting, you may want to to note and maintain that when the fenders go back on. It best to have some point of reference. The main point is where the center bolt on the fender rear pulls in the fender. maybe take a video of the door opening for ref.

Thanks Abe, This is not the original fender so not sure if that was supposed to be there or not. I will take measurements of the fender to make sure it goes back on correctly. The top bold I don't think actually folds anything together. I can almost get some really long needle nose pliers on the square nut. May lose that bolt. So I may have to weld in a piece of metal.

For the top bolt I feel like on my hardtop I reached though with pliers through the vent. Or maybe a wrench. I thought that too bolt holds the fender to the top of the firewall.
What I mean for the door is to note it because I took my vented off a few times and replaced a door and they have a clank they do because of interference as the door opens. Even though it looks like there is room in the closed position. And I have fiddle with the door a lot. Still makes a running noise

OK, I have rt front fender off. Does anyone have a picture of what the hole should look like and the nut that goes there? I know it is a square nut that should be caged I assume. But how does it fit there and then how do I weld it in?

thanks,

Mike
