Progress on Big Blue

This is the 1930 Fordor that I purchased in November. So far have stripped the frame, sandblasted it and painted. Rebuilt the rearend, installed high speed gears, as well as shortened it for the F150 transmission. Done the rear brakes, and made brackets for the installed tube shocks. Rebuilt both springs, and installed new shackles. Mocked up the transmission to be sure it all fits. hope to have it on the road in the spring. The motor is almost done, except whatever I have to do with the new Snyders head. There is little or no body work to be done, (this year) I hope. Everything seems to be on schedule. :)

Nice car Jim. Does it have an all steel roof? I can't see the vinyl.

What have you done to the engine? Stock except for a Snyder's head?

I'll look forward to seeing this car this summer.

Good luck with your project.

Dick

No, Dick, its got the regular roof and of course the engine is stock except its a B, oversize intakes, a TKO cam, counterbalanced crank, and the 6.0 head. See you in Goderich with it!

very nice car what do you estimate your hiway top speed with the later

transmission? thanks

Farrell, its not a kit. I just took some 3x3x5/16 angle and cut away the pieces that I did not want! Worked with steel all my life and have most of the tools I need, so when someone wants $100+ for a few pounds of steel, I can make my own. Steel is still about a $1 per pound. I never pay more than that, because I get off cuts.

I am doing this so I can cruise all day at 60-65 mph, not for top end. I want to cruise at hiway speeds without getting run over by a transport or over revving the engine. I hope to cruise at 60 in overdrive at 12-1400 rpm.

Goderich ontario? When is that tour this summer? Have to make a trip in ours!

August 19-21, 2011. You are welcome to come on over, you are not too far away now. Be sure to look me up, always nice to see another FordBarner! I will be at the Cedar Lodge Motel with my grandson, the gangster! :)

what kind of gear box and car and year did it come out of... and where did you get your adaptor........ thanks

The transmission is out of a Ford F150, 84-86 vintage. It is a 4 speed with 4th being an overdrive of 28%. The adapter bellhousing is from Mac's Speed in New Zealand. If I had to do it over, or in another car, I would go with a premade unit from one of the suppliers here on Fordbarn. They are not out of line with there pricing at all. Its just that every once in a while, we like to see what we are capable of, so we do it....

Heck of job, should be a sweet running car! Would the later 150 5 speeds been any better? I ran both of them back in the day, and liked them a little better, just a thought. Keep up the great work, and pictures! thanks!!:)
