Problem with Super 9-7 carb

Just wondering if anyone experienced problems with the new Super 9-7 carbs from Speedway? I installed two on a high rise intake this spring and recently had a serious leak in one almost causing a fire. Speedway was great in exchanging the defective carb.

It would appear, from what I have read on several message boards, that the new super 9-7 carbs are junk. Check some of the other message boards for opinions.

I have two that were donated for a raffle engine. Ran both on one of my test engines. Merely had to adjust the idle screws and both idled just fine, pulling about 19" hg. Mounted them on an Edelbrock Slingshot and again no problems. Of course they haven't been run on the road yet. Initial experience positive.

Could you elaborate on the leak? I'd like to know the details.

Thought I had a vapor lock on a 100 degree day when the 40 started to die (50 block, bored to 3 and 3/8), dual 9 super 7s on a eddie meyer high rise. Pulled over and found gas gushing out of the back side of the rear carb. Pulled the carb off and blew out the inlet to the float and re-installed. Still leaked out of the back side of the carb. Installed the replacement from Speedway and have had no problems this week. Also haven't had any problems with the front carb. Forgot to mention earlier I am running an electric fuel pump through the stock pump at 2 psi.

Good to see that Speedway stepped up to the plate and sent you another carb. Aside from the problem you had, seems that you're now satisfied with the performance of these carbs?

got 2 on my 40 and had no problem with them. But did have a problem with boiling the gas after I stopped solved that with 2 insulators plate I made since then cranks and runs fine in 100 Ga temp

From what I've read, the problems with the carbs is with the initial run first offered...OR it could be a Crap shoot on the quality...

Built to a price, get what you pay for etc seems to be the bottom line with these, inline with 345 DeSoto's comments too.

The repro 97's cost more and well, you know...
