hello everyone, after rebuilding my rear brakes on my 56 lincoln, after to run few kms ,when i touch my right rear drum ,the drum is very hot, what the problem come from? thank for help me

Initial adjustment too tight.
E-brake cable hanging up.
Backing plate support pads with unrepaired wear grooves letting new shoes get hung up.

THE MAN NAILED IT ...

... or possibly a defective (CHI-CON SLOPPY-COPY) wheel cylinder ...

If the brakes are dragging badly enough, you should be able to smell them. Does the car pull while braking? Did you check all 4 drums for heat? Brakes do get hot.

when I brake, the car brakes straight , it doesn't smell burning, but the left rear drum brake is very hot, and the master cylinder too, the rear wheel cylinders are new, and brake shoe too

I am not even close to being an expert like some this guys here but I will give my opinion. Sounds to me like the wheel cylinder on that side is not releasing the pressure enough to let the shoes come back in after releasing the brake. I know you say the cylinders are new but if they are from chin chon, it might be bad. I would try bleeding out that wheel and see it helps. I don't understand why the master would be running hot too. Are you using the correct brake fluid in the system? Dot 3?

I fought a similar issue on the left front. I won't go into detail of all the things I did needlessly but the reason the left front shoes didn't release is because of a piece that Ford calls an eccentric which is secured by the eccentric lock nut. The '54 manual doesn't expound on it and only has one picture that shows it. I can't tell you if a '56 Lincoln has them or even if they are on the rear brakes of mine. In short, it is an elliptical disc that limits the rear shoe movement. Long shot but worth a look.

Is it one rear drum or both rear drums?

If both rear drums, possibly parking brake cable(s) frozen/mis-adjusted, and/or the rear brake line too close to an exhaust component.

Did you jack-up the car while the brakes were hot or cooled off?

The eccentric mentioned was used only on the front brakes.

here's a few pics of my systeme brakes, the master cylinder come from 1967 ford mustang, the rest is original 1956 lincoln

The only thing I can think of if only one rear wheel is dragging is a frozen brake cable or as mentioned, the brake shoe riding pad(s) on the backing plate being grooved from wear and not allowing the shoe(s) from retracting. Did you lightly lubricate those pads so the shoes can slide easily (special brake lubricant)?

You used new hardware kits and new drums? That wheel cylinder bled easily and freely? No damage to the supply tube to the wheel end?

Unless the new shoes are arc ground to match the inside diameter of the drum, it is going to take a while for them to seat properly. Maybe back that wheel end adjustment off a little until it seats.

You need to raise that wheel after driving and try to find the problem(s) while it is dragging.

I see you changed the TREADLE-VAC to a vacuum booster and dual reservoir MC.

wheel cylinder?, in the right most picture the lining look gone on the rear shoe, the shoes look like not coming to rest on the anchor —- this could be caused by a stuck wheel cylinder piston.

KULTULZ yes I lubricated with a little grease the places where the brake shoes rest and adjusted everything to zero so the wheel turns freely

to me it looks like it was a problem before you redid the brakes. because the wear is not equal side to side. maybe an obstruction in the brake line to the side getting hot

It appears (to me) that the secondary (rear) shoe pad is well worn on the photo you posted, so the problem was most likely there before you changed the shoes.

Make sure the brake cable on that side is not frozen.

The shorter shoe pad (primary) goes to the front of the car.
