Probably been posted before, but fascinating.

I get a kick out of the undercarriages of the different vehicles to see the running gear , exhaust, spare tires, etc. Some (most) of those I don't think the folks walked away from though...

same as today.... nothing has changed even in modern times...

I was wondering about that. other than spectacular wrecks on freeways, how often do we see nowadays similar horrendous crashes in city driving? Notably, most of the attached photos are one-car accidents. Do you think the sheer volume of modern car traffic inhibits urban drivers from obtaining excessive speed, or are drivers better-trained, better road conditions, or what?

Can you imagine right turn and speed cameras back then? A kodak, they would have to send the film out to be prossed before they would mail you a ticket. Lol

I often wondered if and how cities enforced speed limits back then. An old-timer told me once that there were laws requiring the police to follow a motorist for a certain distance to make sure his excessive speed was consistently being maintained. Sounds a lot fairer than trapping a motorist who briefly speeds. It's hard to watch the road and the speedometer at the same time.

I remember when the only way that the police could measure your speed, was to follow you,
The police, back then, saw a lot of brake lights come on, quickly.

In the 20's-30's police departments were. Finding out that mototcycles were their only chance of. Catching speeders in in their hopped up v-8 fords, names like harly daviedson. And indian supplied. Ploice departments by the thousands.
