Hello all! I am very new to anything related to the classic car world. So I am wondering if you guys can tell me what this car is worth. I have seen similarly done cars up for sale for high 40's. I have also seen them for sale even higher and lower than that. I will do my best to describe this car to you guys! If you need anymore information just ask me! I am also going to look at it tomorrow. So is there anything that I absolutely need to check for when looking at it?

The owner says the car was his grandfathers and has been in the family since new. Original steel body with 55k original miles. He says best of "everything" and all upgraded, alll within the last 5 years. Drives it long distances with no issues. Has a long parts list he says. This is the basics of what I know about it now, it has a 355 motor, 4 speed built trans, coilovers, power steering, power brakes, heat, new tires, brakes, new PA inspection, everything works as it should. interior looks a little outdated, or maybe bland.

Again if you guys need more information to get an accurate value, let me know.

That car is a world away from the type normally catered for on this forum. If you want an early ford, this forum may be able to help, but that car is so heavily modified it has had all the early ford character ripped out of it.

I'll stop now as I don't want my post to be a tirade, but I don't think many here would be able to help.

Mart.

Brando, the reason for the cool reception is that the majority of the members of this board are much more interested in resotred or slightly modified for cars. The car you're asking about is highly modified. The people who would be much more interested and knowledgeable about "your car" would be found at www.jalopyjournal.com. The forums there are known as the HAMB. Good luck!

Yep, I would suggest the HAMB or some of the streetrod sites. I think it would be really hard to put a price on this car without knowing a lot more about it.

As you may have already gathered, this is the wrong forum for that particular type of vehicle. The guys here are interested the the restoration, preservation of early Ford automobiles. Outside of some simple modification and/or period correct hot rod material this forum does not cover the type of vehicle in your question.

Thanks for the information! I will certainly post this question to a hot rodding forum. If someone wants to delete this post, that would be fine by me!

The chopped top makes it look "squashed" and the color is a bit too blue for me. You didn't say what the asking price is so do your homework on the internet. Start here:
http://www.cars-on-line.com/sr_36-39Ford.html Whatever you do, put it up on a lift and really examine the suspension and sheet metal for rust. Look at the quality of the welds. Ask when it was built and who built it. Is it full of Bondo? To be very honest, I think it would be a difficult car to sell due to its modifications and general "look." That lowers the price, IMO. When you go to look at it bring someone who "knows" street rods, their quality and value. My guestimate is between $25 to $30K.

Yeah I also agree that it does make it looked squished. And its actually a trade offer for one of my cars that I value at 25k. So basically I just wanted to make sure at least value wise it was at least above a 25,000 dollar car.

Thanks for the info, I will certainly consider all of that information!

man what a way to treat a new member what if he does not buy the car and buys flathead you think he be back no i am glad i have not had lunch

25k sounds more in the price range I would consider reasonable. Be a little careful how much information you post on it on some of the sites. Someone may try and buy it out from under you if your really interested.

bbrando..
You are probably going to be disappointed with what I have to say about the '36 because I will attempt to tell you like it is.
For starters, i would doubt very much that the car has been in the family since it was new, I would also be suspect of the claim that the car belonged to the owners grandfather since new.
There are several factors that can greatly reduce the value of the car: The chopped top is one. The quality of the suspension modifications is another. Was the modifications done using parts harvested from junk yards? Mustang, Camaro, etc., in lieu of new parts from respectable vendors.
Was the work done by a respected builder that has a proven tract record?
Have the car inspected by a professional..
On the average I would say the car might be worth $18/20k, maybe less.. I have seen far to many cars that are twenty footers, that is they look good from twenty feet, then after a person gets seduced into buying the car, it is found that the car is an accident looking for a place to happen.
Another item to consider is the legality of the vehicle: Is the original serial number still on the frame.. The number will start with a *18xxxxxxx* and be on the left front frame rail.. Anything other than that is suspect..
I have owned my '36 for sixty-two years, I am the second owner of the car. I started to modify the car within a few weeks of buying it. I have paper work, original Bill of Sale, old registration cards, pictures and invoices going back to the day I bought the car. I also have a statement by the original owner stating that he sold the car because he had purchased a new '52 Ford.
If you have any question, PM me..

I think Mart has a really good point. After all, if the "trader" hasn't been able to sell it outright - trading it is plan B. The "B" stands for "BEWARE".

A 355 cubic inch Ford flathead (you didn't say otherwise but the picture looks a little strange) is way too big for the street, I think I would pass. All kidding aside, this car would be more appreciated on HAMB.

That is a great site for modified and rods. Is there a similar site for cars like ours; generally stock? I think there would be a lot of interest on the Fordbarn.

Welcome to the Barn, Bbrando.
You've received a lot of advice and all good stuff. Were it not for the chopped top, it'd just be another nice street rod, I think.
But, as many have said, mainly Jim (19fordy), if you're really interested in this thing, make sure you get it on a lift and really look closely at everything. If you are not familiar with what it should look like, then take someone along. As Mart & Jim have said, if he couldn't sell it, then trade is the plan. I'd be very skeptical.
Hope it all works out for you.

I am definitely gonna pass on this offer. Thank you all so much for the advice and information. He really had me believing that is was at least a 30k car.

all depends on the buyer....someone might likie the stance, the chop, the interior, etc...that size motor, etc....and then pay the 30K.....good luck with your search for a car you like, if this one doesn't suit your taste..Mike
