press on cam gear

can a cam gear be pressed on the cam any way, or dose it have a key way dose it only go on one way on a 35 21 stud motor, thanks

On my 21-studder, a line on the camshaft must be aligned with a line on the camgear. Then the dot on one of the camgear teeth must be aligned with the corresponding dot on one of the crankgear teeth.

There is no keyway, you Must line the scribe line on the gear with the line on the cam. Walt

how would a guy know where to scribe the line on the cam?

Brenda, the line is scribed from the factory, on the cam, and the gear. The gear is installed corectly, on your cam, i showed you the two markes, they were lined up perfect....Ed
