Premature Distributor Wear?

Hi,
I have a mallory distriubor, 23 series, on a 29 cc pickup with a HC Thomas head that has a loose bushing. Is there anything that can cause wear on the bushing other than operating the pickup? I suppose if the shaft was out of alignment that might cause premature wear. Anyone have any idea approximately how many miles one should expect from this type of distributor?

I lost the bushings in a Mallory, apparently from condensation in the distributor "well"! Bill W.
Mine had the 2 piece shaft.

I read where the one piece shafts take out the u joint effect that the original 2 piece shafts allowed. So, some have had problems with their dist. bushings using the single shafts. Did the Mallory supply you with one such shaft? Any misalignment of the head on the studs or the dist. bore will cause the wear.
