Power Valve

I'm certainly no expert, but I think the guys that are will want to know what this is 94 is bolted to. Displacement, modifications, vehicle, and how you drive it. I will be watching closely as I just received a couple of PVs off ebay on Friday.

GB, carb is on a stock 59 AB , I have been told 5.5, 6.5 & 7.5, they all can’t be right.
Thanks to both u guys for responding

It comes down to when do you need enrichment under load? The 7.5 will come in the earliest - when the vacuum drops to 7.5 or below, while the 5.5 will come in the latest. Nobody can tell you exactly what you need - it will depend on your specific engine, car, usage, etc..

If it was mine, I'd go with a 6.5 and see how it runs. You can always buy all 3 and then perform some tests to see what you like the best.

The most important thing is to get the proper power-valves ---> ones designed for the seat configuration of the 94 style carbs.

A Holley 4 BBL uses a power valve that is almost identical to the ones in a 94. When I was in the final stages of fine-tuning my Corvette, I taped a vacuum gauge to the hood and watched it carefully and then selected a power valve from the "feel" of the cars performance. It worked well for me.

I purchased on recently (right this instant I can’t remember where) and they only sold the 7 or 7.5 they said that was all that was needed. I haven’t installed it yet so I can’t speak to that being correct or not. I’ll try and figure out who that was and post that here. A separate issue is that for some time (and it might still be the case) the power valves that Speedway sold did not work in the original carbs, they were open all the time. That issue gave us fits on one build.

Charlie gets his power valves from Daytona Parts. He does a little mod on them and uses a nylon gasket if I remember correctly. The new ones are close but not quite direct replacement for the original 94s.

Daytona said they only have 6.5 & this is the correct one. Does anyone know what they had originally when shipped from manufacture?

Maybe I'm unusual, but I have not had trouble with the power valve that comes in the Standard Motor Products 1434 carburetor kit. You have to avoid using the wrong gasket on the power valve, but as long as I have installed the appropriate gasket I have had good results.
