power steering pump rebuild question

I rebuilt my power steering pump but unfortunately didn't pay attention to which way the big gear in the center went. It is slightly curved to one side (seems to push fluid better like a paddle) so my thinking id that the curved side (not the rounded side) would go so that it works when the pulley spins clockwise as it should. If any of that made sense I appreciate any help, this should be a universal question for anyone who has rebuilt a pump but it it off a 1963 Galaxie.

Photos are taken from backside of the pump.
I'm thinking that the first photo is correct because from this angle the pully would spin counterclockwise (clockwise from front) and so the scooped sides of the gear would push fluid counterclockwise as well.

Second photo is the gear flipped

When I rebuilt the PS pump on my 64.5 Mustang, I had the same question. I put it back together and it works perfectly. I don't know whether its right or not but it works great. Just to be sure I just opened up one that I took off of a car years ago. The vanes are pitched forward as you show in your second picture.

The impeller in my PS pump was installed such that when it spun, the face that would most tend to sling the tube outward was correct. In other words, one face is nearly parallel with a line that would dissect the center of the impeller; the other face is aslant such that it would tend to sling the tubes outward from the center when spun under pressure in the direction of rotation that it will experience. In this case, the second picture above is correct.

I would guess that it will work either way as wunderwerks indicates but that the pressure may lack a bit if installed backwards. He had a 50/50 chance of guessing correctly and apparently he got it right.
