Power steering control valve 79 Granada

Ford coupe

Senior Member
My brother rebuilt the power steering control valve and now the car steers to easily to the right and way to hard to the left..Was a difficult job putting kit in unit but got it done ..so any help appreciated to help him out of a bind.. Thanks in advance..

The control valve has seals at each end. More likely that not, one seal has blown out and the other one is still working. Picture of the control valve, out of my 53', at the bottom, with arrow, but the same basic system was used into the 70's .

Would i have an oil leak if either seal leaking?Rebuild kit with seals came from rock auto ..Now maybe that tells you something..No there is no sign of oil leal..Thanks so much for the info..Harry

You might want to give it one more try to clear any air out of the system. While running, turn the wheel all the way to the right then all the way to the left. Do that 3 times, to see if it gets any better.

A few more pages pertaining to assembly.

Thanks but looks like going to buy a new one as no leaks no air and everythingblooks right but steering to right no effort as it almost steers itself,,scary..To left almost like standard steeruing..Thanks for trying to help///Harry..

Been 45 years since I did one but I seem to remember a critical centering adjustment on the spool valve. There are some You tube videos of an early Mustang PS rebuild. Should be the same process.

It is done with this nut, which is under the cap in the second picture. If the nut is really tight, back it off and see if that helps.
