Never had the chance to work on one of these , they are usually seen in the non-affordable sections of a swap meet or on a shelf to view from time to time.
This one is a customers that needed checked out.
It is a very nice unit overall. Twin bearings with a gear drive that cleaned up very well. The mag is a "wico X" and has a little spacer ring for the flathead v8 cap.
A run up after cleaning off all parts including the contacts shows pretty good spark . Highly doubt the mag starting a car with a starter as it takes 800 rpm to generate a spark then it runs all the way up to 6000 rpm plus !
The impulse trigger is welded up and more than likely would be used on a lakester etc....
Nice casting !! Someone needs to repop this one for sure......:D

George Pounden made some very reliable mags. I had one that came on a V8-60 for a midget race car. Great runner. When I advertised it in Hemmings about 20 years ago I received a phone call from George himself. He was looking for a particular unit he had built (not mine). We had a very long conversation (about an hour) covering many subjects. He was a very knowlegable man. When he found out I was an aircraft mechanic he proceeded to tell me all about his time working on airplanes during WW1 in Britain. The automotive world lost a Good One when he died.
