ok, I know someones restored their steeringwheel. How is the quality and how long am I looking at?? For about 75.00 more,:D I can buy a new one. I know getting my wheel off the column is not going to be easy and after that, I don't know if spending the time redoing a wheel in rough shape is worth it. I'd hate to spend the money if the repair is marginal. Thank's for any feedback!!

I've used the kit on one 1936 banjo wheel and one off topic 66 Buick Wildcat wheel. It seemed to hold up well, just make sure you bevel all the cracks and places that are missing. The only complaint I had with it was the epoxy putty that is in the kit was a little hard to manipulate into a hard edge. But I also may have gotten a kit that had been on the shelf for a while. Also I did not use the primer supplied in the kit it seemed a little thin for what I wanted to accomplish so I used a urethane surfacer that I use on other body projects. Both wheels are still holding up well no cracks and i had to "build" a good portion of the 36 wheel.

Kit schmit... :D
You can make a steering wheel puller out of scrap and a couple of bolts. Cost..... next to nothing.
I repaired a very rough 40 wheel with JB Weld, some sandpaper, and some paint. Came up great, and it had mebbe 50+ cracks. Cost.... about $30.
(cost of a repo 40 wheel in New Zealand is around NZ$950!)

Why buy something when you can do it yourself and have the satisfaction and pride that you did it?

Remember to document the repairs with photos and keep us posted along the way I am sure there are other guys that need to make repairs to their wheels. HRP
