i know stuff like this has been covered in the past i rebuilt the shift tower over last winter and it still pops out of third gear i have a later style transmission with an ar tower due to the multi disc cluch assembly being removed to put in a regular clutch so im wondering if that is causing my prorblem thanks in advance jim

I went through a transmission years ago that had this problem. Affter all the suggested fixes it turned out the teeth were worn where the shaft looc up and the twisting torque was driving the gear back. New gear and it has been fine since.

also if the idler bearing in the flywheel that holds the tip of the input shaft from the transmission is worn, or the ball bearings at either end of the main shaft are worn, it can also cause that issue. I have this same issue on my fordor, but have not yet had a chance to take the trans out/apart to verify which issue I have.

This past summer I have installed two brand new transmissions (foreign made) from one of our popular A parts suppliers. The first one jumped out of 3rd gear when on compression. Did what they said to correct the problem - rebuilt the shifting tower with new rails, detent plungers and spring, and rebuilt the ball on the end of the shift lever and confirmed that the plane of the flywheel was only .002" runout from the machined flange of the flywheel houseing. All that work and it still jumped out of high gear. Talked to the supplier again and they sent me another new transmission on exchange. Lots more work in changeing the transmission again and found that it still jumps out of high. Sh_t!

This has been an expensive and labor intensive lesson regarding foreign made transmission parts. I'm now going to rebuild my original transmission with USA made parts and go thru the transmission change ordeal again. I regret that I didn't do this in the first place.
