Popout

Couple of kids were in my A today and I later discovered that the popout was on. Coil was very hot.
This is a freshly rebuilt popout, i have been told that the reason many failed was due to key being left on.
What are the chances the popout was damaged? New coil also get very hot.

Thoughts? Thanks, Steve

The popout doesn't care. It's the coil that gets cooked from leaving the key on. Popout failures are usually the result of wear. Either the loss of spring tension in the bronze contacts in the head, easily fixed by a little bending, or failure of the internal wire from the contact and in the armored cable.
