I have a 31 Sport coupe with a pop out ignition. I know nothing about them. I put in the key and turn it and it pops out. Then it starts fine.
When I want to stop the engine I pull out the key and push in the button where the key came out of and it stops. Is that how it is supposed to happen.
Thanks Wayne

It is designed so you can remove the key and keep driving. That way the key ring won't be swinging around and wearing the lock.

When you push it in to turn off the engine be sure you push it firmly and it doesn't pop back and run down the battery and ruin the coil.

The pop-out when pushed in, besides shutting the engine off, puts a ground on the arm of the ignition points. This is part of Henry's anti-theft design. It makes it difficult to hot wire the car.

I have a phantom view of the pop out on my site. Also I recommend turning the key to pop out then put the key in your pocket. The keys swinging in the switch can scratch the instrument panel...fwiw,jm
