Police Head?

Based on the information I found searching the forum I assume this head with the "B" cast on it is a police head. Is this correct?

Thanks, I got the whole engine for $150 at a hot rod shop. Engine turns over and the starter works, but that's all I know so far.

Is the B (police head) different?

Answer:

Stock A head is 4.22 compression ratio.

Head "with a large C (also called B head from 32-33 Model B engines) is 4.6 and uses a rare 3 bolt water pump. Not all three hole water pumps are the same ...

Police head "with the large B", with 4 bolt water pump, was 5.2 to 1, was released in 1931 to be used on Police cars only as story goes ... later sold to anyone. This head really makes the A or B engine run noticably better.

The Snyder and Brumfield heads with their slightly higher ratio might be a little better.

I have been running "Large B head" since 1963.

The Snyder and Brumfield heads are reproduction copies of the "head with the large B".

The combustion chambers of the Repro, C and B heads are "heart shaped" when compared with the stock A head.

Cacey, I maybe wrong, but that and at least one other video in there are of the annual "Pumkin Run" show, in South jersey. The owner tours the place in a rusty model A coupe. The event is around halloween each year. I was there selling, two years ago, A great place!
