The white film /corrosion that gathers on the Ignition points of cars that sit in high humid conditions ,what do you think causes this ,is it a type of electrolysis, Ted

Electrolysis can happen in the presence of moisture.
I recall back in the early '50's some of us used to take our new sets of points to one of our local jewelers to have a layer of platinum applied to them that seemed to eliminate the associated problems.
Aircraft magnetos do in fact use platinum replacement points.

Was stationed in Okinawa in the 60s. Had to remove my cars distributor cap almost every morning and clean out the inside and the points to get it to start!
