points coil 272 y

Did you try putting that C5JF dist in your 272 ?

I did a google search on that housing number and got a few interesting links.
It looks like it's for a '65 260, or maybe 289 engine.

The third character "J" is for industrial/marine and maybe some 'other' applications.
If it were specifically a Mustang distributor the 3rd character would be "Z".

Post #7 at this link seems to say Sunbeam Tigers with a 260 V8 had a "J" as the third character.

I have to stop now.

this is what was sent when i initially paid £130 for recon and was sent one for a bb ford, sent that back been sent this and the guy apparantly a specialist y block guy. not at all happy. looks like been sat in scrap car 20 years.

It truly does not seem to be a Y block distributor. Is the shaft from mounting flange to the bottom the same length as the loadamatic. C5 on the distributor says it is a 1965. Y blocks stopped production in 1964. You want a distributor from an early 60s F100 from Cardone.

thanks for that hello guy swears came from his 292 they same length and it fits. got her to fire up yesterday but dies when give throttle, have new points and that coming in post pal going to taks a look monday, dam starter on its way out so that not helping! i was at crossroads months back, put money into Y or bin it for another motor. finding parts a struggle ive spent probobally £1000 in last 6 weeks lol

I bought a dist from autozone last summer. it was a cardone. it had a part # similar to what you have. they are some how remanufacturing 289 dist. into Y-block dist. I also noted that the shaft length below the drive gear was between 1/8 to 3/8 of an inch to short. in the end I did not use it, even though it fit, I did not like the shaft being that short and not engaging the oil pump drive shaft fully. probably would have worked but I ended up buying a new msd unit. still have not finished the stroked 313 build, so can't say how everything worked out.

finally got running have carb issues now have a rebuilt 465 holley on there so trying to sort that out, only revs up with choke 3/4 on and only runs with mixture screws 5x out, will rev up with choke off but only progresivley on throttle told has 30cc acc pump and size 25 squirter definatley lacking fuel the fun never ends!

hope so gotta take carb off when swap to propper 4 barrel inlet so waiting for inlet gaskets and will do in one go, need to make up throttle spring return bracket, pleased slowly coming together and nice to hear her running!
