Plug in oil galley

Another problem. There is a special 1/4" pipe plug in the end of the main galley under the pump drive cover. It would not go down flush so the cover would go on. I was about to ruin the screwdriver slot so I gave it a turn in a die to clean the threads. Now it goes too far in and wants to cover the port that supplies the oil. These things are the most exasperating things to work on. I will buy some regular plugs in the morning and see if any will work. I will try socket head ones first. I will just thread some bar and cut a screwdriver slot if I can't find one that will work. I tried a std plug and it was too small and wanted to cover the port. The engine the machine shop ruined has a socket head plug in it. It sticks out but has been put in so tight that it will be scraped with the engine.

These things can be repaired! Too tight, one can drill out the center, chisel out a ditch on one side of the threads and collapse the rest into the center... Next time, the outstanding end of the plug can be ground down- put it into another pipe fitting-as a handle- and taken to a grinding wheel... I use a very long 7/16 drill bit to run through the oil passages, this could be used to clear the too-long plug on the inside...
These plugs don't have to be dead tight, they just hold back a bit of oil pressure... Karl

Apparently you are working with a 59A engine? Use the plug you made undersize with the die. Coat it with Pipe Sealant from Loc-tite corporation(or similar compound). Run it in to the desired depth and install the rear cover. No more problems.

Get a new allen head pipe plug or socket hear plug. coat it with sealent and go in snug, and like JWL and Wolf said , install the cover and go on . Now you have an extra plug in you hand .... lets check the other end on that same tube ( well almost ) In the timing gear area. is the plug in the place ? Just above the cam bearing. Should be a screw slot type plug too. ...OLD....BILL

I was able to get the allen head plug out of the old engine without damage. I put some blue thread lock on it and put in in just down from flush. Cover is on . I put lock washers on the cover bolts and now I am woundering if the bolts will now clear the flywheel. I am almost ready for the crank. Do you oil soak the new high tech black rear seal ropes?
The funny front plug with the restrictor went in fine. I may take it out and put blue thread locker on it as well. The relief plunger has some wear grooves from the spring. I just went ahead and installed it. I may take it out and file it a bit. Should I put washers under the cap?
Thanks to everyone helping me with this!
