Play in U-joint normal?

Hi,

There is lateral, or side-to-side play, in my U-joint (that is - the center of the front axle does not have to align with the center of the rear axle exactly). It almost seems like it was intended to be that way when looking at the surfaces of the bearing. Is this correct?

Lateral play is normal. Rotational play is not.
