Plated surfaces - what to do

I have a Model A Fordor which I believe is fairly original where all of the nickel plates surfaces (bumpers, headlights, door handles and fixtures, radiator shield, etc.) have seen better days and are worn off and/or slightly pitted. In the meantime, I have wire brushed them clean and painted silver. Wanted to get the general feeling on what to do - have them replated or put on new parts?

The replacement parts available today are of better quality than they were 20 years ago (I have some poor-quality repro parts on my car). But if you want original quality, original looks, and original fit and finish, it's probably worth it to have your original parts replated. That's leaving aside the cost and the difficulty of finding a good plater these days.

That would be up to you, its yours. Do you want it for show, or driver, and if you need it that way. Mine is the same as yours and I sandblasted the parts and painted the with a alumium metalic paint. Look good to me, but it up to you. With it this way they know it is almost all orginal. Good Luck and only you now.
