I always wondered how they worked.
Pretty simple. I have a couple old engines I would like to check just to see how much wear there is.
Would you start with .001-.007?
Would that show a crank in good shape?
 
.001-.003 is within spec for mains. Also for rods with insert bearings 8ba type. We can't measure the floater earlier rod bearings with plastigauge. I love using it because I rehab a lot of older flatheads and when bearings are in spec I am very happy!
