Hi Bill, I can't give you any specifics on a '53, but I've been running one on my '40 for 17 years. I used to think it filled too slow, but after filling my '38 with a steel tank it seems about the same. It is a little larger than the stock tank which is good for longer between fill-ups on trips, but puts it closer to the exhaust pipes. I put a patch of bubble insulation on the tank at the pipes and no problem so far.

Check with a company called "Tanks". I think they have one for the 52-54 cars. I've used the plastic tank in 4 different cars and never had a problem. They have extra capacity and are much safer in the event of a rear end accident. All your new cars have plastic tanks.

I have a plastic tank in my 48. Been there about 18 years and not a bit of trouble. Plus it holds 20 gallons so I got a long cruising range.

I have one on my 55 F-100 going on two years and although it's a 15 gal ILO the stock 17 gal, no big deal. The biggest advantage in my opinion is that you will never have to worry about rust. Steve

I don't know of a plastic tank made for the 52-54 Fords.

Bob Drake,Auto City Classics and Dennis Carpenter sell the reproduction tanks in zinc coated steel. HRP
