Pitman arm

I just installed a new shorten pitman arm on my 29 ccpu. I have been driving my A for 30 years with tight steering, rebuilt the entire front end, still tight. So I tried the new shorten pitman arm, what a difference!!! I will never use the longer pitmann arm again. Monday morning I am buying 3 more shorten pitman arms for my other model A's

It is supposed to make the steering easier. i just ordered one for my "A." I'm looking forward to a much improved and easier steering.

The shorten pitman arm made my steering alot easier. make sure you order a new pitman arm bolt & nut

Mike,Are you using the 7 tooth or the 2 tooth box? The reason I am asking is I have heard over and over how it reduces the steering radius.In the dozen or so I have done the steering hit the stops before the shortened arm and after.Not once have I seen the steering box come to the end of it's travel before hitting the stops.Maybe it does happen with a 7 tooth.My only experience with 7 tooth boxes has been to take them out and replace them with 2 tooth boxes.I don't know if I am hearing these reduced radius reports from people with real life experience or armchair theory.I don't know if I EVER turn the steering to full lock while actually driving an A.

Keith,
I have a 7 tooth steering box in my 29 ccpu with 1 inch of play in the wheel. I had no problem turning into my driveway and into my garge. Today i will try to hit both stops left & right.

Mike and Keith;

I have a short Piman arm on my 30 Coupe ( 2 tooth ) and really like it. It does make the steering much easier. I have also about 3/4 " play in my steering and I have never reached the stops on a turn. My car is a driver and I ahve driven it almost 5,000 miles since installing the short Pitman arm. I can't imagine reashing the stops in normal dirving.

I reach my limits often. So does my steering. Street park in a Chicago neighborhood, come back to find someone parked one foot away in front and in back. You find out what your limits are real quick.

With the shortened arm, I have found the steering to be easier - and only notice the increased turning radius when maneuvering in tight parking situations. I have a 7-tooth box with approx. 1" play. The steering no longer reaches the stops.

Thom, it does make the steering noticeably easier. I put a new one on my roadster and I like it. I don't notice any wider turning radius.
