piston talk/Qs...

Rick,

it is simple math, the block is 11.500 tall in stock form.
crank stroke, 4.25/2 =2.125
rod centers 7.500
11.500-2.125-7.500 = 1.875 CH of piston.

These are basic dims to work from, flatheads are generally not that tough to do, adding pop-ups to overheads can get interesting.

Hey John,
'SIMPLE' to you ;) ! I took trig/log rym/cal/math..or should I say...it took me ! However, for some people (ME:p)...it is not simple at all !
Coincidentally, with this morning coffee, watched a news segment the subject of which was ....is math still needed/useful in school . Seriously, I'm too old to jerk around quickly, but this got my attn. Wow, what's going on is all I'll say. I did not love math, but even then saw that it trained the brain to think/function. Like how much leverage did I have to use to pry to hubcaps off of a junkyard dog :D

I copy your formula, thanks much.
Now , tell me how to calculate the amount of popup pistons for my Schofield head use (3/4" comp chambers) ?
