So did I, for the last 50 years, right up until I broke one. I have never seen an upper oil control ring such as the ones I got from EGGE/Grant. The picture on their website is the style I’m used to, so is the picture on the box, and the picture on the instructions. Instead of the traditional “waffle” style expander ring with 2 thin rings above and below it these have a “slinky” looking spring inside a groove on the back side of the cast ring. It makes for a very fragile ring that has to get installed a long ways down on the piston. I admit, I haven’t been inside a V8 since I built this one 50 years ago but I have never seen this type. The rings I removed are the style which I am used to. The new ones? Never seen ‘em before. I don’t think that there is too much complication about a ring expander/installer so I’ll just pick up whatever is available locally.
