piecing a Vicky together

About a year ago I was looking for a slant window cowl for another project. I found one several hours away. It was recessed for a Vicky and had one door on it. After talking with the guy I found out he also had the frame - and the front axle with rocky mountain brakes - and the steering gear with a perfect wheel - and the radiator. I bought it all. I couldn't stand the thought of this type of car being pieced out. At the time I asked about the missing parts. The rear body and door had been stolen years before. He had sold the motor (in parts) a year before. After a year of trying I was finally able to contact the owner of the motor. The block was all that was left. Yesterday I finally was able to bring it home. It has the serial number I couldn't find on the frame. During the past year A friend found a rear body section and door for me (leatherback) and I found a floor panel. I've heard stories of car builds starting with a hub cap. I started with more but it still feels great. Norm

Sounds like you have the hard to get pieces, I wish you well. There is a Vicky group over on the HAMB thay may be a source for missing bits. Bob

Norm, I saw the pieces you started with, you have a great project ahead of you. Keep on it and ask all the questions, even the dumb ones!

I feel your pain! I'm still collecting, but I'm starting with a leatherback back half, two Victoria doors, and a '31 Fordor slant window cowl along with some repro pieces. To say the least, it will be a challenge.

Norm & vanDyck, my hat's off to you two for having the vision & the pazzaz to build cars out of so many pieces/parts. A HUGE undertaking, makes me tired just to think about such a project. Great success to you both! Bill W.

Is the Fordor & Vicky cowl different, if so how? Bob

Hey Norm, I loved your story and am happy that things are finally falling into place for you. I hope the restoration goes well. You will be saving another great Model A.

Bob, I do not have a Vicky cowl to make a side-by-side comparison. If anyone who has more experience in the features of the two cowls, please let all of us know.
One question: did the '31 Fordor and the Victoria both use a wooden sub-frame? Both my cowl and back half have nothing.

the sw four door cowl is pretty much the same cowl as the victoria but the four door had a steel sub frame and the victoria has a wood sub frame you just have to remove the sub frame where it goes under the cowl.
