What is the purpose of the pipe going to the floor in the second to lat picture?

Thank you. It is a hold down bolted to the floor, maybe not necessary but put there just in case.

Like lots of us out there I've been around model A's for a long time. But I can't remember ever seeing any engine stand that looked as well thought out as yours. Most of them are just cobbled together and questionable at best.

This is not quite as fancy but only cost 35 bucks. I needed it that day so I headed to Home Depot and grabbed a handful of lag bolts and some wood. It is stable and rolls around nicely
