Can some one tell me are the beds for pickup beds the same as the Roadster Pickup beds thanks Tom

The "narrow" pickup beds alone were known to Ford as 78A for both 28-29 and 30-31. Used with either the open cab or closed cab trucks.

The Closed Cab alone used in 1928-29 were 82A

The Closed Cab alone used in 30-31 were 82B

The Roadster pickup body alone in 28-29 were 76A

The Roadster pickup body alone in 30-31 were 76B

The "wide bed" pickup bed 31 mostly alone was 78B I'm not aware of any RPU bodies being used against a wide bed.

There were VERY MINOR differences between the 28-29 and 30-31 narrow 78A beds mostly in the riveting and the "impress" of the tool used to create it. Most, even owners, would not know the difference. And given the "delay" that assembly of a truck might involve, even assigning a specific rivet/pattern to a specific year/assembly is dubious. It is not usually examined/critiqued in judging.

yes they are.

It make sense that there would be. May 1931 is the start of the "wide bed" and it was certainly used much as the narrow beds were previously.

I just haven't seen one. All pictures appreciated. Currently on the road envied.

Somewhere I have the book which gives actual production numbers, but it's not in front of me. The single picture of a wide bed pickup in "The Ford Model A" by DeAngelis/Francis/Henry is against a closed cab.

I believe Doc Kalinka restored a wide bed open pickup that was documented in some publication or other. There was one about 15 miles from me that got retro-fitted to a narrow bed.His bed was nice, but he was having too much trouble finding good rear fenders for it.He wanted to drive his truck, not spend his time scouring the countryside for fenders that he said he couldn't see driving down the road anyway.
