Pickup Bed: Painting Rivets

In final stages of body work on pickup bed. Any suggestions for dealing with the primer surfacer around the rivet heads? Seems to me that once painted, any flex in the bed will result in cracking of the paint. Am sure this didnt concern Mr. F. but it does me (and i suspect judges:rolleyes:).

They key is no paint build-up around the rivets. Dip a piece of aluminum foil in your catalyzed Concept and after it dries, see how flexable it is.

i assume this means no build up of the primer/surfacer as well. how do i deal with this ... i dont think i want to sand back down to bare metal ... just spend extra time at each rivet with 400/600?.

Charles: If you already have some buildup of primer you might consider this: Find/make a piece of tube about .015" to .020" larger than the diameter of the head of the rivit. Using adhesive backed sanding discs and a punch put a hole in the sanding paper the same diameter as the inside diameter of the tube. Punch this hole in the middle of a piece of sandpaper about 1" x 1-1/2", and stick it to the bottom of the tube. Hand rotate around the head of the rivit to remove excessive paint. You might want to pack a lunch as it is very tedious and time consuming, but it does work. Just a thought!
