pertronix install

I purchased a pertronix 1285ls unit for my 47 crab type dizzy. Yesterday I attempted to install the unit and ran into some issues. After installing the unit and tightening the timing adjustment screw the distributor gets very hard to turn. I took the unit out and installed in a different dizzy I had in my cabinet. It turned freely after install but would mount flush to the block like the drive was out too far. Has anyone else had fitment issues with these? Am I doing something wrong? Seemed pretty straight forward to me.

Yep, everyone a little different! The plate and bushing being new are pretty snug when installing and sometimes the bushing is driven inward a little more that others. You need to take a good look at the shaft end play ( up and down) and may need to add a shim or remove some material under the bushing for more clearance.
This isnt pertronixs fault as we have the same issue building crab 42-48 distributors. Some go back together perfect and others need some work to make them free.......
Also the side plate screw can be over tightend......causing a bind...

Thank you for the advice. I did notice when I installed the plate and retaining ring it had no movement between the plate and the advance mechanism. The old plate did.
