Has anyone had any good/ bad luck running a PerTronix electronic ignition in a 6 volt 21 stud? Did it take anything special to make it run? Thanks.

Hello Russ, where and when did you get your P setup. I have a 12v on one of my cars that seems to do well but I remember a detailed discussion from one poster (Rumbleseat) to the old board that had many problems with the 6v version.

I have a 6 volt pos. grd. Pertronix Igniter kit in my 1952 F1 - it is great! I suggest you use their Flamethrower coil as well - I put the coil in first and saw a big improvement with just that.

I thought I had read some folks had problems with the 6 volt version. For the life of me - now I can't remember the details.

I don't know all the details about it, but I think it had something to do with 6V generator power having spikes of voltage. That's been a long time ago, maybe they have corrected the problem. I've found the folks who answer the tech line to very helpful and up front. I'd start with sharing your concerns with them. Obviously they will promote the product, but can give you areas that might cause problems.

Yes, I remember Rumbleseats strong negative sentiments on the Pertronix ignitions. He is quite outspoken about them. I, am still running the same 6volt pos ground one I was running 10 years or so ago. I was working with Remund on the Remund ignitions, when he had the exclusive on them. I did all the prep work for him, and he gave me the unit I have been running. It has been flawless. The VERY early Remund units did fail often before they were redesigned in systems that had noisy electrical systems. They are very spike tolerant now and very durable. I think Pertronix is selling the conversions direct these days.

As with ANY electronic device, the GROUND is very important.
It is most often completely overlooked.
Where ever the device is grounded and the COMPLETE ground circuit back to the battery needs to be as close to zero ohms as it can be made.

I have a 6volt electronic ignition on my 59L block - been running strong for 8 years. Jere Jobe built it using a Pertronix / Ignitor sysytem.
