Permatex on fuel pump

Here's a quick kinda amature question ..... I pulled the mechanical fuel pump off my 51 8BA ..... It had a fibre gasket that tore from where pump mounts to the upright where arm and pump rod meet .... I hope that makes sense I'm kinda new to this.... Anyhow would it hurt to leave out the gasket and just use permatex on it... I could wait for a gasket but have not really found a good source for one yet... And it is kinda holding progress up

I would check both surfaces to be certain they are true. Too often they warp, the fuel pump stand being the worst (typically) of the two mating parts.
I always true both surfaces and install a gasket.
As Russ/40 has suggested, why not make a gasket?

I think I will look at work in the morning and see if we have any gasket material at the shop.. If not I'll hit an auto parts store and pick up some gasket material an make my own ... I kinda over did it today in the garage been getting over the flue and I seemed to get a little carried away on the car

if your going to make your own. use a ball pin hammer. if I recall I cut one of the holes and fasten it down. thin cut the rest. good luck!

Well went to napa today bought the gasket from them.. apparently it's a pretty standard unit that is common across later model ford fuel pumps as well... That was easy enough... Thanks all

For future reference , if someone wants to make there own an 8mm ( or anything around a .30 cal.)shell casing works perfect for the bolt holes. Also a .22 works for the bolt holes on your gas sender gasket holes.
