People who don't respond

I'm tired of people who tell you they're looking for something. I respond, send pictures and a reasonabe price, and then I don't hear a bloody word from them again. How about a "thanks for your time, but I"ll keep looking" or " I think your part is junk" There,I feel better. I hope somebody put Limburger cheese on their exhaust manifold!

You think thats bad,i get people who order stuff and i get it boxed up to go and never receive a check for it from them,at least send an email saying i dont need it now, nothing. Gets my goat. ken ct.

I find it easier to just post up the pics first in the post. That way they can see if they are interested or not. It saves sending separate pics to everyone that is just looking anyway. But your right where is the common respect gone. Maybe because they aren't physically talking to you there is a disconnect of some type?

Same with trying to sell Ol'Rons book. I get 5 or six queries a month as to how to get the book that I never hear from again??? To bad cause they are missing something great.

Yes, I agree. People who use this site to aid in their restoration need to be aware of the hours devoted to searching through many years of collected parts to find that "special part" that they may be seeking. I love the great feedback I get when someone receives a part they have been searching for and finally have it in their hands. On the other hand, I am baffled by the number of times I have responded to an ad and get no feedback at all. It's kind of like reading a mystery with the last chapter missing. Or even more appropriately reading a story about an engine build that goes like this: Well, we hooked up the battery, poured some gas down the carburetor, reached over and pushed the mechanics button on the solenoid and...

And then there's the guy who's been looking for years for a certain part made of "unobtainium" and finally finds that you have one for sale at a reasonable price. He's all excited and happy as he must have it after such a long search. Great! Then the buyer backs out because he thinks the shipping is too expensive.

Hang in there Chuck M. Selling stuff is a profession for some and by choice for others. Buyers try to get what they want on their terms through the cyber world and will "ping" places then move on. I think you got pinged. Or maybe not. They may call back after some thought. But don't lose sleep over it. People--even without manners do still eventually buy what they want. I once bought something from a dude on ebay and it was never sent. Turns out he stroked-out and was in a coma. You never really know.

Welcome to the cyber world where you can't reach out and jerk a knot in their tail!!

I agree 100% with you guys. I wonder why I even bother to run out-take more photos and never hear a thing. It really irritates me when they play the "it's the last part I need for my restoration" card and I fall for it and then they resell it on the web. Unfortunately, there's too much of it going around and we can't stop it.

I wonder why people advertise stuff for sale and don't respond when you try to buy what they are selling. Least they could do is say it's sold, they changed their mind, they don't like hot rodders, they don't like restorers, just testing the market, or what ever.

This doesn't quite work on replys made to people with wanted ads. I am with you on the for sale ads. Picture and price will answer the bulk of questions.

Some time it's not because they don't want to respond, it's because of the way they have thier 'SPAM BLOCKER' set up.

And, think of us guys overseas, we look at parts and often pay the sellers asking price because we don't have the options the guys in the States do. Then when we want to pay...no credit card facility, no paypal, they will only take cash or a money order, which cost us guys in Oz about $28.00. Then we have shipping at quite high rates.

When I hear cash only, money order only, no paypal, I think sometimes a little churlishly (I admit) 'why the heck are you bothering'. The easier a seller can make a transaction the higher the success rate will be.

On the other hand, tyre-kickers are a fact of life, they'll always be with us. And while a follow up note or word is nice, none of us should be surprised when for most people, that moment has passed. Be professional, or if you can't do that be philosophical lol, or simpley move on.

Add to this, a lot of ebay sellers will not sell outside the US, and it's not just private sellers either.

Be careful now, while trying to "communicate effectively" some may take these comprehensive entries as "whining":D

On a serious note, I'm getting better @ writing an email W/name and date on a seperate piece of paper to help remember what I did on line:eek:

If you think a "no response" to an email is bad try chasing down customers for payment after 30-60-90 day's, while trying to make repairs and doing quotes ect, ect.

I've got one equally puzzling. Had a guy from here wear me out about a part. I had it priced ridiculously cheap, asked him to pay pal me , and he only paid the shipping, then did not bother paying for the parts !!

People are just too distracted these days I guess.

This is an age old problem. It occurs on Craigslist, e-bay, etc. An old timer once told me "when you work with the public, sometimes you don't have a helluva lot to work with".

I have had it happen several times, that someone answers my ad for a part for sale, says it is just what they want, I tell them it is theirs and never hear from them again. This is on FORDBARN !
Maybe they think that you will send it out without prior payment, I don't know. Not me !
MIKE :)

I like what your "Old Timer' had to say, true for yesterday and today.;)

I've sold quite a bit on ebay. Lower valued items just aren't worth the trouble to send outside of the U.S. with custom forms and all.

A couple of years ago I sold some wheels here. recieved the guys money and waited for him to pick them up. never heard from him again. two years go by. I finally find the guy and he says "I forgot". Says he wants his money back. I say "did you pay for the wheels?, I forgot ".

I have been mostly fortunate in my dealings with people on Fordbarn. I do have several items that people agreed to purchase all packed up and ready to ship upon receipt of payment which I never received and never heard back after the price and shipping were agreed to. I have also had several people pull up old ads from the archives and email me to find out if I still had the item. After I responded, "Yes," I never heard back from therm.
