PCV installation advice

I know this subject has been gone over before, but I can't find any old threads covering it. I would like to know how the pcv is installed, and what p/n for the valve itself. I think some of you have done this mod to rid the smell of hot oil,but I also know it is important to keep a proper air flow through the sump etc. My engine was rebuilt 3 years ago with inserts, counterweighted crank, and a 5.9 head. Runs real well, but the hot oil smell is a nuisance, especially to the Misses.Help !

I'm wondering why with all the recent work you've got an oil smell that bothers the missus? mileage since rebuild?

Note: Flow rate and valve release differential calibration vary widely from one PCV valve to another. They also need to be installed in the original design orientation or the release calibration will change drastically. You cannot use just any PCV valve.

Idle and low speed driveability will be horrible if the PCV valve flow is too great or the release setting is not a good match to your engine. Most cheapo replacement PCV valves will fit the intended original hole, but have specs that are way off. This one works well in an A that has normal idle vacuum, and is all steel so it will not soften from exhaust manifold heat like a nylon valve. If you have a cam with a lot of intake duration or overlap that produces low vac and a lumpy idle this valve has too high a release differential to operate properly.

Like 1931 flamingo I wonder why you have that smell. I have had a recent rebuild and also had a significant oil smell, but it was the valve cover gasket leaking a bit on the rear lower corner which allowed a small bit of oil to hit the exhaust pipe and smell.

Installed a new gasket and the smell went away.

Engine has over 3000 miles on it. It also has a Stipe touring cam. Can't locate any gasket leaks. The oil filler tube fits well so no leak there.

do you have excess blowby causing the fumes or oil leak. maybe you have an exhaust leak and are smelling that or how bout a rich running carb. i know sometimes the wives have a sensitive nose
