Why did I have to give a new password and user name? I have been on the site for years and don't remember what password I used years ago.

Good question---I went through the same thing last week. I had to try every password I have ever used. Lucky my memory happened to hit on the correct one.

If you use a different computer, this site (and many others) requires a new sign in, including your password.

I have had problems with having to put in my user name and password almost every time I come on the site??? G.M.

Everytime I use C-Cleaner or run a disk clean, it will get rid of all the stored cookies and you will have to log in again.

I check the "remember me" box every time. I guess I lost my cookies. G.M.

You browser setting may be such that when you close it out, it automatically clears the cache and cookies...you'll usually find these settings somewhere under "tools" in most browsers.

I never sign off, but if I did , I have no idea what my password is. Do they give you a way to make a new password.

If you try to login and it fails, there should be a "forgot password" option...you click it, enter in your email address you used to register...and an email is sent there.

Then, you get the email...click the link in the email, and reset your password.

Now...if you have changed emails since you registered ...update your user info with the correct email address..

I/e if your old email was xxx@aol.com

But now you are xxx@MSN.com

Your login/reset info will go to your now defunct AOL email address, which you cannot retrieve...it's like this on about every internet site now...so update your user info if changes have been made.

I had to redo mine on the MTFI site, same goofy thing, got a msg my pw was 120 days old and must be renewed.

Some sites require you to re-enter your password every so often. Probably a safety feature for identity theft purposes. Yahoo does this all the time. I have had this happen on other sites.

I keep a list of all my passwords (I got a lot) in a hidden spot.

Sometimes finding the answer requires a little digging. Just like in life. This type of question would also belong in the "Questions & Suggestions" sub-forum, as it covers site-related questions, not the "Early V8" sub-forum or others in the "General Discussion" section.

Instructions:

Click on the "FAQ" link at the top of the page. The FAQ page is a repository for "Frequently Asked Questions" related to forum usage.

When the FAQ page opens, you have two options. Either enter a search term - such as the word, "password" - in the search form, or click on the "General Forum Usage" link in the list below.

If you do the latter, this will bring up the "General Forum Usage" section. Click on the "Lost Passwords" link in the list.

This will jump further down the page to the "Lost Passwords" section. Read the paragraph and click on the "Forgotten Your Password" link in the text.

A page with a form to recover your password will load. Read the instructions, enter your email in the "Email Address" field, and click the "Request Username / Password Now" button to submit.
