Parts Washer Liquid

One of my parts washers has a drum under it with a pickup hose. Instead of filling it with solvent, I put several heavy duty trash bags in the drum and replace the basin over it. I only put in a few gallons of solvent and fill the rest with water. The solvent floats above to be recycled throughout the parts washer and all the dirty stuff falls thru the water to the bottom of the bags. Every year I pump off the solvent, lift out the water bag, strain out the water through an old towell and throw the bag full of gunk away. I reuse the solvent with a new bag.

P.S - the price of crude is now approximately $55 per gallon. You think it might be reflected in the price of mineral spirits, heating oil or kerosene now but you would be mistaken. Maybe it takes a little longer to work through the system but don't hold your breath.

Oil is about $55/barrel, which is 42 gallons. That makes oil about $1.30/gallon, down about 50% from 6 months ago.

I does take some time to work down to the retail price of products. Retailers are always free to not pass on their savings, though.

Just a thought. When your finished cleaning your parts, wash them off with Wax and Grease remover. This will get rid of the oily film and you'll be ready to prep the parts for paint. If you don't clean off the parts you had the chance of losing the adhesion of your primer and paint.
