Parts for 68A

For the last several months I have been getting parts for a project I hope to start next year (need to finish my 28 open pickup first). I'm missing all door parts for the Cabriolet, window regulators, latches interior door handle rods. This car has the all wood interior door I know the regulators are the 4 bolt type. are the other door parts the same on all cars or only to the Cabriolet?

It is my belief that the 68 A used cut down front doors from a 155B or 165B. I have an all 'original' 68A under restoration and it appears that both doors have been "patched" at the top of the front window opening and at the rear of the door where the vertical portion has been cut off. I have looked at a number of other 68A's and they all have the same witness of a factory alteration. It is my feeling that the window lifts and other parts must also be the same as those parts installed in the Briggs four door sedans. I am not speaking of the 60 series Fordors. Gar Williams

Gar,
That would make sense. The interior wood on the doors seems to be the same, I'm not sure as I have no wood. Do you know if the Briggs doors are the same size as the Cabriolet? That could effect the length of the rods for the interior door handles. Does your Cabriolet have the seperate exterior door lock? I would like to find a 28/29 Briggs sedan in Southern California so I could look at the doors and compare them to mine.
Regards Steve

I believe most 68-A doors used the wooden plate which the window regulator and door lock remote bolt to. That would be like the 60-A & 60-B Leatherback. I think in late 1929 they changed to the steel plate like the Briggs Town Sedan. I don't know this first hand.

Recently, I purchased an older restoration 155B Briggs Town Sedan (late November, '29) and had not thought about checking to see how close the front doors matched my late August 68A. The exterior dimensions of the two sets of front doors do match. The hinges appear to be on the same centers. The 68A does have wooden cross members internally to which the window regulators and door latch assemblies are attached. Internally, the 68A doors appear the same as my 60B. I suspect that Marco is correct and the doors could be the same as the 60 series. Since my new to me 155B has upholstery on the inside of the doors, I have no idea as to the door internal construction. It would not surprise me to find that the 60 series doors are the same as the Briggs 155B.

The door stamping above the top hinge is different between the 68A and the Briggs Fordors. I can't determine if it has been "restamped" on the Cabriolet or simply a different stamping. It certainly is an easy problem to overcome if you attempt to convert from one to another. Gar Williams

Steve:

Here are some pictures of the 68A door and the 155B door. The 155B is painted blue. Please feel free to ask if you need more. My email is Aerocraft at AOL dot com. Gar Williams

What type of cowl band do you have? My 68B has the upper wood mounting board for the regulators. What makes a 68-A different from an early 68-B?

Rich

The cowls are quite different between the two body styles. The '30 has a different firewall, fuel tank, dash, cowl panels, etc. The 68A has a nickle plated over brass cowl band versus the stainless steel of the later cars. Gar Williams
