Parking Brake Boot

Good evening, folks! i have a question for you. I have one of the rubber boots that fit over the parking brake handle on my '31 Tudor to dress up the opening in the floor board and I suppose to keep out the cold and hot air.
How in the heck do you get it to stretch enough to get it to slide over the button and handle at the top and go on down to the floor board? It is a very tight fit and I'm afraid I might tear it by forcing it too much.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help!

Thanks to all for your responses! All were helpful, but I have a spray can of silicone lubricant and I decided to try that. I sprayed some on the inside of the rubber boot and it went on like a new glove on a fat hand! That silicone is good stuff, I just forget to use it.
Many thanks, fordbarn!
