Parade signs

I might be transporting a WWII vet in the parade. I have some information about him, including branch of service and where he fought so I'd like to make a sign for the car.

I may just inkjet print it on heavy paper and stick in on with magnetic material, but I was wondering if anyone has come up with a better method (without having to go to a sign shop and spend a lot of money).

:DStep up and spend the money for quality signage. This individual and many others that defended the cause of freedom deserve it. You'll be glad you did Steve.

See if you can't get just a piece of magnetic sheeting from a sign company. It comes in mat white and is usually 24" wide. Then use spray adhesive on the ink jet sign you've created. Then spray the magnetic material and apply it carefully to the sign (or vice-versa)

The magnetic material will secure well to the metal body. Also round the corners on the magnetic material so it doesn't dog ear and lift. Make sure you clean and wax the door where the sign will adhere to and also wax the back of the magnetic material.

I've made signs like this for years and it would make a great momento for the vet and make sure to tell this Vet that I said "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE".

we run flags on all corners , etc for parades . just a thought ............ steve

if this is going on the doors of the car, you can buy elastic from a fabric store and and wrap it around the door, (up and down not sideways) and tie it. use one at the front and rear of the door and slide the sign in. this is the way we do it at our local christmas parade. the signs were printed on poster size paper and were supplied by the city. but i bet office depot or staples or kinkoes could make the sign. You could make your own using poster board or butcher paper.

I already have the magnetic material. It's white, so I can't use the stick on letters (thanks for the offer Mitch!).

I might run down to Staples and get stick-on letters. Otherwise sticking the paper to the magnetics would do.

His daughter and I are still trying to talk him into going. He said he'd consider it. He fought in the 45th Infantry Division Recon and landed in the first wave at Anzio, Salerno and Sicily.

I have seen packs of magnetic paper for just such a purpose in computer/printer supply stores for ink-jet or laser printers. Not sure what it costs....

I made parade signs on the computer, then laminated them in plastic laminate, and then used self adhesive magnetic sheets to hold them to the car. They work great, and will not be damaged in the rain.
