Panel Truck Gas Tanks

I've been looking for a replacement gas tank for our '53 F-100 Panel Truck and so far I've had no luck. Anyone have a good one for sale? From what I've been able to find out about the history of our Panel Truck, it was built in New Jersey and sold in Pennsylvania where it was used for many years as a surveyors truck (which would account for all the dents in the gas tank). The tank is serviceable but I would like to swap it out for something better if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would contact Bob Selzam,Half Ton Fun in New Jersey to find a tank mayby even a NOS one or at least you will know what you are up against. You might be surprised. Could be one of those items that supply is better than demand, like over the years I have seen quite a few Tucker radios for sale NOS,seems they made a bunch of them over the 50 or so actual cars,or the Sportman parts like rear fenders, more fenders than cars. Ofcourse I am usually wrong but worth a shot.

Good advise 37 coupe. I once popped out some dents in a gas tank by sealing the filler and other holes and using compressed air. Can't remember how I rigged the connection, but then I have a hard time remembering the way home sometimes. Bet you don't get GOB response Toby.

Thanks, I'll give Bob a call.

I like the compressed air idea but I'm afraid it would blow the tank apart

Get a old gas cap and weld a air hose fitting in it, and plug the fuel and vent line. You will need a good air regulator and try to increase the pressure 1 pound at a time. While doing this tap around the dent with a hammer gently and it should pop out ok. It will usualy make a loud bank and scare the heck out of you, becaus it will come out all at once. Marv
