Panel above windshield

I am having "brain fade".
When properly installed, is the metal panel above the windshield on a '30 coupe flush with the wooden header, ( and the underside of the visor) or is it about 1/4 inch below the wood?
Does the welting cover the gap? Is the welting fastened under the top edge of the header cover or under the visor?
There are two bolts passing vertically through the lower portion of the header. Do these bolts go through the metal cover, or do the just sit under the metal cover?
My guess, from a faded memory, is that there is a gap and the welting is fastened under the top of the panel.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Joe

Yes a gap. I've heard the welting said to be put in either place. It doesn't make sense to me to put it under the visor.

On my '30 Tudor, I installed the flap of the welting under the metal header cover and let the bead stick up above the top edge of the wooden header. When the visor is installed, there will be a good seal between the welting and visor to keep the weather out. I also put some calking on the top edge of the header just behind the bead of the welting. When the visor is installed, the calking will also help make a seal and but will not be seen as it is behind the bead of the welting. If you have not already done so, I like to put wood presertive on all the wood, especally the header.

That is the way I did it.

Just my opinion.

These are 1930 coupes from my reference file.
I believe they are authentic but if anyone sees an error please post it...as I'm no expert :o

Thanks for your comment. I hate to have to redo stuff because I wasn't clear when i started.
The other part of my question regarding whether the two vertical bolts go through the metal cover is still not clear to me. can you help?
Thanks.

Thanks for your quick reply. The pictures really helped. I am still not sure if the two vertical bolts go through the metal or not. I couldn't get the info from the pics.
Thanks.
Joe

Joe,

Not sure what you mean by vertical bolts.

You should have no holes in the panel for bolts. Those bolts go in from the inside of the car, thru the header bracket, bar and into the header. There should be a captive plate plate with two threaded holes inside the header (if you have new wood, then it will be 2 captive nuts, so to speak).

Anyway, Les Andrew's Volume 2 (green manual) shows top wood installation in a coupe. It will answer things for you.

Thanks. The bolts that I am talking about are situated in the lower portion of the wood, with the nuts in the open space between the upper and lower wood portions.
