This is your best chance to preserve a good frame.
After blasting all the rust from inside the channel, you need to use a good rust primer and paint inside the channel. Many of these frames have rusted away at the bottom because the water can't drain out.
I use epoxy primer and POR-15 in the channel with a brush.
Trial fit the glass and see if it's the correct size and determine what size channel tape is required and when all is fitting nicely THEN dissassemble and paint everything.
Basically this enables one to put it together without all the wrestling around that damages your new paint.
