Painting--one or two stage

Here's a Brit with a silly question....."Is single stage" the much loved, old fashioned cellulose paint? If so; nothing beats it for a finish "you can swim in"

Been painting for decades ,on my old bikes I tend to use 2pack or cellulose paint and 2 pack lacquer (smaller areas) but my cars cellulose every time ,it dries quicker can be flat and polished and be blown in repairs in small areas as needed ,but as with everything its all about the prep .
