Painting engine parts-what color?

Having my A engine rebuilt and I'm getting the the water pump,upper and lower radiator hose housing's ready for paint.Looking at pictures of other engines I see some painted black and some painted the engine color. Which is the correct color? This is not a show car but I like to keep things original. Thanks to all that reply.Dennis/CT

Two parts that I always see painted the wrong color are the valve cover and crank pulley.They are Ford Green.

Pretty much the cast pieces are Ford engine green, and the steel pieces are gloss black. The cast distributor is one exception, as this is black also.

One thing I like to do, IF you are not a purest, is to use 'cast' paint on cast parts. I just looks really fresh and goes great with just about all engine colors (model A as well as small block Chevys etc). JMO so I thought I'd throw it in there...not original by any means. Tom
