Paint Suggestions

Been painting cars for 53 years...I am 65. Custom, award winning rods and regular cars. Upon recommendation of a trusted car guy I am using products from Southern Urethane for my frame off for my 31 Tudor Deluxe. Not a purist points car but a correct driver and touring car. I have been very impressed with their products. Their epoxy primer for blasted metal is best I have used, 7 day window and never turns unsandable like PPG and other brands get...hard as glass and unsandable. Their black epoxy is all you need for undercarriage....3 coats...Beautiful bad TOUGH. All filler goes on over sanded epoxy...filler over bare metal is problematic

Just for information. Product support is incredible. Cost is good. I called several restoration and custom shops said they will never back to the big 4.

Not sales pitch...just great product and support. When's the last time you could directly talk go the developers OR the company president 24/7? With all tedious work to make our cars right...check them out . If you want rustoleum or cheap spray bombs...go for it. Each has their place...no criticism intended....just another great option...reasonably priced.

Curt,
Thanks for posting that. I may try their matte black product on my side panels.

Here is an idea on painting, I have been involed in the paint business for 30 plus years there is a product from "Deft. They formulate low VOC products including the "36" series Zero VOC 2 component urethane. It is a fleet type urethane for the bus transit systems including New York and Chicago Bus transit authorities. This urethane can be air sprayed, brushed and rolled. It also comes with an accelerator for quicker drying but not curing. This urethane is also used at Disneyland (Anaheim, CA) where everything is brushed or rolled the finish is impeccable with no brush marks!
I rolled it on my model A frame and it's easy to sand and repair. Go on website:

I hope this helps,

Thanks for the info. There are so many really good products that are out there but little known. I have done some of my own testing on frame pieces with this epoxy when cured and it really is tough and bonds like hell. I have a friend who used POR 15 and in areas where there was some flex it developed very small cracking which led to rusting coming through through and it was applied correctly. Have used it sucessfully myself in small areas like the flanges under windshields etc...? med to do fine. Not impressed with the big 3 's bare metal primers. Have have edges rust through...and yes metal was perfectly clean and properly prepared.

One area that has always bothered me is the rusting where the head and the block meet. Even nicely painted engines seem to start rust seepage there quickly. I going to try. And eliminate or hopefully stop that with mine.

Thanks for the info...would like to try your product too!

When I spray a head or block I spray over the edge and onto the machined surface to help stop the rust from forming.
